Our free programs use the past to put today’s issues into context. They also tell the stories of Connecticut residents who effected change by raising their voices and taking action. Our goal is to encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas too…

However, we cant do this alone. Our free programs, such as Conversations at Noon, rely on grants and donations. With your help, we can bolster our mission and continue to produce great programs that bring the past and present together in service to the future.

Connecticut History Day (CHD) is a program for students in grades 6-12 that encourages exploration of local, state, national and world history. After selecting a historical topic that related to an annual theme, students conduct extensive research using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. These projects can be entered into a series of competitions, from the local to national level, where professional historians and educators evaluate them.

Kid GovernorSM is an award-winning statewide civics program for 5th graders. Timed to coincide with Election Day in November, schools are eligible to enter one student candidate into a statewide election that other 5th graders vote in. The winning candidate serves a full-year term with all the benefits and responsibilities of being their state's Kid Governor!
